Abstract: In this presentation, I will demonstrate techniques and methods of using satellite observations to study Earth’s climate. I’ll also give examples of how to use satellite observations to improve climate model simulations of clouds and moisture in the Earth  atmosphere.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Jonathan Jiang is a Principal Research Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. Dr. Jiang is also an Editor for the American Geophysical Union’s international journal of Earth and Space Science. Dr. Jiang earned a B.Sc. degree (1985) in Astrophysics from Beijing Normal University; a M.Sc. degree (1991) in Astrophysics and a Ph.D. degree (1996) in Atmospheric Physics, from Canada’s York University. He has worked at Nanjing Institute of Technology (Southeast University) during 1985-1989 as an assistant physics lecturer. Prior to coming to JPL in 1999, he also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at McGill University during 1996-1997 and as a Research Associate at University of Quebec at Montreal in 1998. Today, Dr. Jiang is recognized internationally for his expertise in satellite remote sensing. He has authored more than 100 publications in scientific journals. Dr. Jiang has twice received NASA Exceptional Achievement Medals in 2010 and 2013 for exceptional achievements in using NASA satellite observations for climate studies.
